Feminism. It's complicated being a lady these days. I try to sort it all out. When in doubt, ask what would Shirley Manson do?

A topic very near and dear to comics and philosophers - depression. Nietzsche, Heidegger, Foucault, Hume, John Stuart Mill all had nervous breakdowns. Tom and I discuss the types of depression one goes thru and what you can do to make it suck less. |

In this episode I discuss what it means to take a break and just be a person. I took 4 days off and realized that leisure time is something Americans hate. Why is that? Jean Baudrillard has some answers, as does Max Weber. Also, I read Dan Harris' book "10% Happier" about his journey into finding meditation. A great book for anyone deeply skeptical about the self-help guru world.

Mellisa Villasenor and I discuss self and how to find it. Also, why it's AWFUL to compare yourself to others. Melissa is an amazing impressionist and comic and I know you'll adore her as I do. |

This episode covers the Madonna of the philosophy world - Frederich Nietzsche. He's popular, but often misunderstood and one of my absolute favorites. I cover the Genealogy of Morals and the idea of slave and master morality, the will to power and maybe a little ubermensch, too. |

In this episode Dhaya and I go deep on compassion, anger and relinquishing control - the holy trinity of human drama. She's hot off a meditation retreat and I have so many questions for her - like how annoying was everyone else on the retreat? How do you deal with your own thoughts for days on end with no interruption? Dhaya is a gracious and enlightening guest. I know you'll love her.

Stranded in a snow storm in a hotel room in DC, I cover Phenomenology, Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. Phenomenology is the study of subjective perception and Merleau-Ponty grounds perception in the body and in the "flesh of the world". How French is that? I also look at what it means to "stay present". It's the buzz phrase of the time, but how in the hell does anybody really do that? Also, what does this have to do with Pippi Longstocking? All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy...listen to my lunatic snowed-in ramblings. |

The Full Charge and I discuss the documentary "All this Mayhem" about the skateboarding champs Ben and Tas Pappas. Their descent into drugs, prison and chaos make one wonder if you can truly change your fate. They were born into a rough life and tried as hard as they could to escape it. But can you really change your destiny? Maybe, but shit ain't easy... |

This episode I ride solo, dawg. We cover 50 Shades of Grey and why my cousin loves it so much. Also, what does it have to do with Michel Foucault? TONS! Why was I going to S&M clubs as a teenager in LA? You'll have to listen to find out... |
